This landscape photography workshop takes place in the Canadian prairies during the 2024 Milky Way and storm season. Over the course of six days, we’ll immerse ourselves in capturing the diverse landscapes of Saskatchewan (and parts of Alberta), photographing the night sky and Milky Way in some of Canada’s darkest skies, and positioning ourselves in front of awe-inspiring supercell thunderstorms.
Join instructors, Scott Aspinall and Craig Hilts, as we photograph the captivating geology that defines the Canadian prairies, complemented by its living skies. With a limited group size, this workshop offers personalized instruction to assist you in realizing your photographic aspirations and bringing your creative vision to life.

Throughout the entire workshop, we will consistently be with the group, offering thoughts, advice, and real-time critiques. Feel free to ask questions and seek individual assistance for specific challenges, whether we’re in the field or the classroom. Your active engagement is encouraged and will enhance your learning experience.
After covering concepts of creativity, compositional approaches, and the benefits of smaller and grand landscape scenes in the classroom, we’ll spend time exploring some of the interesting terrain across the Canadian prairies to create imagery that is distinctly and uniquely you.
Because you’re arriving during the peak of storm season, you will learn what it takes to forecast supercell thunderstorms, how to get yourself into a great (but safe) position to witness one of nature’s most spectacular events, and, ultimately, how to photograph and timelapse them.
With access to some of Canada’s darkest skies, it’s only fitting that we guide you to some of our preferred dark sky locations in Canada. Here, you’ll not only learn the art of capturing the Milky Way but also enjoy the sheer brilliance of the night sky.
This includes comprehensive coverage of essential photography concepts, an in-depth exploration of planning tools, and an examination of various techniques employed in the field. This dedicated classroom time is designed for participants to enhance their understanding and proficiency in photography.
We will navigate through the editing workflow, starting from the initial stages to the finishing touches. Throughout this process, you’ll gain insights into the utilization of Lightroom and Photoshop, witnessing how to transform a raw file into the final product that aligns with the artistic vision we had when capturing the image in the field.
We will cover some of the different concepts, theories, and tools around what makes a compelling photo. But, more importantly, you will learn actionable skills and practice them in the field. Because storm chasing is a priority, you’ll also learn what drives supercell thunderstorms and how you can chase them successfully.
Together, we’ll invest time in providing constructive critiques for several images from each participant. In these sessions, the feedback will be honest. We guarantee that you’ll depart with a renewed sense of inspiration, new ideas, and thoughtful perspectives that will enhance the quality of your image-making.

Payment Options: Full payment or a $1,250 non-refundable deposit guarantees your spot. The remaining balance due by May 9th, 2024 confirms your spot.
Note: Failure to pay by the due dates means forfeiting your deposit, and the spot will be freed up and potentially sold to another interested participant (see more about the cancellation policy in our terms and conditions below).
If unforeseen circumstances arise, guests are welcome to transfer/sell their space to other interested guests. In such cases, guests are responsible for handling payment for the transfer.
Class Size: There is a minimum class size of 3 guests. If we do not reach our class a minimum of 28 days before the workshop, we hold the option to cancel the workshop. In this case, a 100% refund of your payment will be issued.
Insurance: We do not require that guests have trip cancellation/interruption insurance, but it is recommended. Weather and other unforeseen factors can cause delays in travel. It is the guest’s responsibility to cover any costs in the case of a travel delay of any length. Please ensure your trip cancellation/interruption insurance accommodates this possibility. World Nomad is an example of a reputable insurance provider. Please also ensure that you are covered for emergency medical/illness as Living Sky Photography Tours will not be held responsible for any medical costs.
Documents: You will receive the Workshop Itinerary, Leave No Trace Principles, and Liability Waiver after we receive your final payment. This is when you are considered confirmed. The Liability Waiver MUST be signed and submitted on or before your final payment date or you will forfeit your spot.
